Wine Glossary
about

In the spring of 2004, in Bragg Creek, Alberta, Canada, 7 amateur oenophiles decided to form a wine appreciation club. Its aim would be just that - to educate members to not only taste wine, but to appreciate the intricacies of the wine industry as a whole. Relatively unknown grapes such as the "Fiano" of Italy or the "Durif" of Australia, just to name a few, would be compared with the more popular varieties. Other topics of interest now include interpreting wine labels and deciphering the story a cork can tell after being pulled. Smelling a cork really does nothing but make one look like an idiot.

By the end of 2006, the club has grown to over 100 members. Guest speakers, not necessarily associated with the wine industry have made these tastings very interesting affairs.

Wine tastings include the product of any wine producing country a member may be interested in and wines can be sourced from those countries by special order. Archive Cellars specializes in the wines of France and Italy along with a collection of thirty to fifty year old rare single malt whiskey from limited productions or decomissioned distilleries.

Members receive a free monthly newsletter containing product information, wine trivia and dates of upcoming events. The "FROM THE ARCHIVES" newsletter seen on this web site (View Here) is an abbreviated version of the newsletter mailed to our members. If you are interested in receiving a mailed copy, please go to our CONTACT US page and leave us your mailing address.

Future plans include introducing more varietals and blends through future tastings to a growing membership. Archive Cellars is finalizing the first edition of a large glossary of international wine terms, some of which date back thousands of years. These will assist members in interpreting wine labels, and other wine related information and making better informed decisions. We will shortly be looking for a publisher and first copies will be offered to members. Visit our " glossary " section for further information, as well as our products page for sales and ordering information.
